COROMANDEL.

(from our own correspondent.) October 28. The Roman Catholic Chapel has been newly painted and decorated, and is really a credit to that portion of our religious community. A move, too, has been made towards the erection of the Church of England building, and the timber is actually on the ground ; but., alas ! there it is likely to remain, as I have heard that some hitch or other has again occurred, and that the building committee are at a stand still.

Our Cricket Club was to have inaugurated the new season by a match between the upper and lower townships, but, as usual, filthy lucre was in tlie ascendant, and it fell through for want of numbers—a pity, too, for the new ground kindly lent to the club by Mr Woollains was in capital order, but “ it’s an ill wind that blows nobody good,” and some of the visitors by the Golden Crown had the opportunity of running "after a bit of leather, which they would not otherwise have enjoyed.
