FATAL ACCIDENT AT SEA.

The steamer 1 Nevada,’ on lier passing from the Fort of Auckland to Sydney, at 11.30 p.m. on Sunday, the 17th inst., .after rounding the North Cape, came into collision with a barque, which is supposed to have sunk, and all hands perished. The cries on board the barque are described as something awful. There was a very heavy sea running at the time, and the steamer could not render assistance. The illfated vessel is supposed to be the * A. H. Badger,’ on her way to Auckland. A gentleman, whose brother was on board the steamer at the time of the occurrence, and who has furnished us with the above particulars, ajjds that the ‘ Nevada ’ was considerably injtired by the collision, and will be detained in Sydney for some time for repairs. Since the sad accident to the steamier ‘ Tauranga,’ we have not heard: of anything more melancholy than this occurrence. We have not before us any particulars from which to judge whether there is any blame attributable to anybody, or whether it would have been possible for the steamer to have rendered assistance, hut it does seem a most dreadful scene to contemplate, that a vessel should go down with all hands on board with a steamer in close proximity; nor does it appear how the accident was ; caused, 'rioi whether any or what lights were burning at the time on board the steamer or the barque. Full particulars will doubtless come to hand in a short time. The report has caused a profound sensation,: and the sirictest investigation will of course take place into the matter, There is a possibility, -but we are afraid no great probability of some of the crew of the barque being saved, and from the limited particulars already to hand it is greatly to be feared that no one of the A. H. Badger, if this be the right name of the vessel, will be left to tell the story, ancl;if so there will be, as it were, only one side to be heard—that of those on board the Nevada. We look anxiously for further intelligence relative to this most deplorable catastro-
