MINING.

Goldfinch. —The crushing for this company was completed yesterday morning at the Waiotahi battery, and gave the very satisfactory return of 36ozs. 16dwts. of retorted gold from 18 tons of stuff put tlri-ough. This is about what we stated the stone would turn out before it left the paddock. The manager is pushing ahead, getting more stuff out, and will soon be prepared for another crushing. Multum-in-Parvo. —The stone just put through for this company at Weston’s battery, amounting to 50 tons, gave the handsome return of 170ozs. of melted gold, or at the rate of 3ozs. Bdwts. to the ton. This return will do a great deal of good for the Upper Waiotahi district, and give encouragement to neighbouring claims to prospect their ground. There are still some 50 tons to be crushed, and it looks just as well, if not better, than that already put through. Sons of Freedom. —A meeting of the directors of this company took place in Auckland on Tuesday morning last, when it was resolved that the working manager should take out about five tons of stone fiom the leader cut by the Flying Cloud people, and get it crushed as a trial of the lode, preparatory to setting to work in the Lincoln Castle drive. By working from this level the company will have a block of ground 35 feet in height, the whole length of their ground, to work out, which is known to be valuable. The yields from this ground are fully expected to pay the expenses of their low level tunnel. Prince Imperial. The manager reports that a leader showing gold was cut yesterday in the low level. He intends at once to open out and prove the value of the lode at this level. Eureka Hill. The shaft is now empty, all the water having been bailed out yesterday, at noon. The manager inspected the drains at the bottom, iu the afternoon, some hours delay having occurred through the foulness of the air, necessitating the fixing of an air-pump before anyone was able to get down with safety. Last night the shift started to clean out the old workings, which aie not in as dirty a state as was expected. This will occupy the remainder of the week, and next week they will be able to start to work at the development of the mine. The manager states that the leader down below is about eighteen inches wide, and looks very well defined. There is a block of 70 feet from the bottom of the shaft to the main level drive to be worked out, and there will be another 70 feet or so from the Kuranui low level up to the present working iu the Eureka, making altogether a back of 140 feet of the leader to work out. Judging from past returns and prospects, this ought to prove a valuable piece of property, and add yet another to the list of dividend-paying claims.

Nonpareil. The general monthly cleaning up and retorting for this company took place yesterday morning, and gave a yield of 7270z5. retorted gold, which, with 1470z5. already in bank, made the total of 8740z5. This was reduced to 8530z5. of melted gold for the month’s return. A large quantity of the stone crushed was taken from new ground, and though the yield is considerably less than last month’s, yet it is still a very satisfactory one. The quantity of specimen stuff crushed this time was considerably less than last month. A meeting of the directors will be held to-day T , when a dividend is expected to be declared. No doubt, some other business of importance will also be discussed at the meeting, more especially with reference to the talked-of amalgamation with the Waitemata, about which so much has been said and Avritten lately. ’ Caledonian. —Both pumps are Avorking splendidly, and last night the Avater had been reduced 25 feet in the shaft. All being well, the mine Avill be clear by to-night, and Avork will be resumed in the low level. There is no change of any consequence in the mine, and the crushing is looking very Avell. Tookey’s shaft Avill also be clear by to-night, or in the morning, and they Avill be enabled to continue the Avorking of it, Avhich has had to be suspended since the flooding of the lower Avorkings of the Caledonian. Mary Ann. —Work avrs resumed yesterday, after some little delay, in this mine. The manager is going to drive on the reef in order to rise up and stope out stone to thoroughly test the value of it. Standard.—-The shoots for getting the stone to the wire tramway m the Te Papa Gully, as also the traimvay from the middle level drive to the lower shoot are uoav complete, and crushing Avill be commenced as soon as arrangements can be made about a machine. The stone coming from the reef which contained the specimens lately taken out continues rich, showing gold freely. The leader formerly Avorked on in the Portuguese claim, and Avhich gave as high as 7ozs. to the ton on the surface workings, is also being AA r orked on uoav, and the show of gold is such as to Avarrant the expectation of a first-class return from the crushing about to take place,

Comstock. —We notice that a portable engine is being erected at the Comstock Company’s claim, Waiotahi, (late Golden Crown Extended) and work will be started as soon as all is in readiness.
