AMUSEMENTS.

Academy of Music. —The “ Lancashire Lass ” still retains its place and popularity on the boards of the theatre. It was produced last night with the same careful attention to details as on previous evenings, and we should imagine that this piece must have been quite as successful to the management as “Formosa:” It has been stated that this drama is. not equal to Dion Boucicault’s production, but in this we must dilfer. We admit it is certainly not quite in character with the present tastes of the da} r , but still some of the thrilling incidents vie with any in “ Formosa.” That there are a few incongruities there is not a doubt, but what would any drama be without some of these startling effects ? It is a license allowed to all dramatic authors to stretch a point, and after all. there are not great improbabilities in the piece. Who has not heard of a man being rescued from drowning, and as Charles Matthews says, “ it is quite possible for him to turn up again.” However, this column is no place for argument, therefore we close this notice by stating that the Lancashire Lass is equal to any production emanating from Boucicault’s or any other pens. Miss Colville will take her benefit this evening, and we trust that she may have a good house, as a recognition of the fine dramatic talent which this justly popular actress possesses
