Sir, —Referring to your Honor’s letter of 25th ult, I herewith enclose a copy of a memorandum by the assistant engineor-in -chief, which the Government deems conclusive as to the superior advantages of the lino surveyed by Mr. Wrigg over that recommended in the memorial, copy of which was forwarded to your Honor with my letter of the 19th ult, and I have in formed the memorialists accordingly. Instructions have been given to have the working survey of Mr. Wrigg’s lino executed with as much dispatch as practicable, so that the plans may be ready for the use of contractors at the earliest possible period. I have the honor to be, sir, Your very obedient servant, W. Gisboene. Wellington, Oct. 19, 1871 ro the Honorable the Colonial Secretary, Wellington. Sir, —I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 17th inst, No. 922, inclosing copy of memo, by the Assistant Engineer-in-chief, and I am glad to learn ;hat instructions have been given for the mmediatc prosecution of the work in acjordancc with Mr. Wrigg’s survey.
