The Bill to admit Mr. Smythies, Solicitor,. of Dunedin, has passed the final stages in the House of Representatives by a majority of thirty to nine. Mr. Creighton’s Permissive Bill was read a second time without a single dissentient voice. Mr Fox .made a most eloquent speech on the Bill; i Mr Reader Wood’s motion for the defence of ottt-settlcrs was withdrawn after' a long debate. Mr. McLeod apologised and withdrew his accusation against Mr Mackay, but made a violent. attack on Mr Gillies. Mr McLean vindicated Mr Mackay. The Married Woman’s Property Bill has passed in committee. Leave was granted by 19 to 16 to introduce the Wellington Loan Bill. The Civil Service Act Amendment Bill was read a second time.
