WRECK OF THE ‘LONE STAR.’ FRIGHTFUL MINING ACCIDENT. Brisbane, October 7. The captain and four men belonging to the schooner ‘ Lone Star ’ arrived at Rockhampton in an open boat to-day. They report the loss of the vessel on the Wreck Reef,on the 10th of September. They left the reef on the 27th, and after suffering great privations, arrived at Rockhampton on the 7th instant. Woollongong, October 6. A frightful accident took place a few days ago to a miner named John Cole. As he was at work in one of the Mount Keira mines, a large quantity of stone fell, crushing him to death. Sydney, October 7. A grand dinner w'as given at the Odd Fellows’ Hall, on the occasion of the fifth celebration of the introduction of the first protective tariff in Australian Colonies. It was a great success. The P. and O. s.s. ‘Malcca’ receives the crews of H.M.S: ‘Blanche’ and ‘ Rosario.’ She sails on the 15th for Bombay via Galle. Anthony Trollope has returned to Sydney. He is on a visit to his son’s station for a few weeks. He will then proceed to Melbourne en route for Eng land.
