[PHR GREVILLE & Co.’S (Reutor’a Agents) EXPRESS.] WHITAKER n. LUNDON. THE PARAHEKA BLOCK. THE PROVINCES BILL. SHAREBROKERS’ LICENSES. Wellington, Oct. 19, 3.30 pm. The Lundon and Whitaker Committee have reported that the petitioners have shown a fair and equitable title to the land and that they are entitled to compensation, and that accusations of Mr. De Hirsch against the professional misconduct of Mr. Whitaker junior, are entirely devoid of truth. The Committee recommend that the claim for compensation be favorably considered by the Hoiise. The Public Trusts Bill is discharged. Mr. Vogel moved to discharge the Transfer of Powers Bill, and expressed his ultimate intention to go on only with measures absolutely necessary this session, and to endeavor next session to render definite what powers should remain with the provinces. Stafford, Rolleston, Gillies and Reid supported the bill as a necessary and good measure, and opposed its abandon ment. The order to discharge the Bill was carried by 40 to 25. Wood, Gillies, Wakefield, Reid and Calder opposed. Leave being given to introduce Public Revenues Bill, Stafford intimated his intention to divide against it at every stage. Leave to introduce was carried by 35 to 25. Per GREVILLE and Co., Router's Agents.) Auckland, 3 45 p. m. The Government Provinces Bill was opposed by Williamson, who considered it indicative of great changes which required time for consideration. The Government then withdrew the Bill. The second reading of the Payment of Provinces Bill, was agreed to. Swanson moved that Sharebrokers’ License Fees be charged provincially. This was carried on the voices. The Government then withdrew from the Bill ; however, it will probably be again brought up and further considered.
