THAMES RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the council o.f the Thames Rifle Association was held last night at Mr. Mclntyre’s office. There were present Major Cooper, President of the Association, (in the chair)j Messrs. -'Murray, Grant, Carpenter, Barnett, J EoWe,‘ Hopkins, Pearson, Hoskins and McCullough (Honorary Seoretary.) Some discussion took place as to the first practice meeting of the Association. It was ultimately resolved to hold the meeting on the last Mpnday in October. It was decided, in order to produce some eveness of competition, that the best shots should be handicapped. Mr. McCullough read the letter he had forwarded to the Greymouth Rifle Association accepting the challenge sent from, them for ten marksmen of iber district to fire against an equal number from the Thames.. *. d r- < K V # ; Considerable time was then occupied in selecting the team to meet (he Greymouth ten, and after a close examination of the merits of tbe various rifle shots amongst our volunteers and members of the Association; the following were-chosen. Messrs. Barnett, itowe, Grant, Ca'penter, Fenton, Constable, Hosk : ns, Hopkins and Pearson. The meeting then adjourned.
