OHINEMURI.
(from our own correspondent.) October 13. There is but little to report from this district since Mr. Mackay and Mr. Puckey left some days ago. There is, however, without doubt, a certain amount of interest centreing here now in consequence of the many rumours that are about, all having for their tendency the opening up of the country, and the question as to this opening up of the country has simply assumed a new amount of significance consequent upon the visit of Mr. JMackay and the Civil Commissioner, and the great consequences expected therefrom, one of which consequences is, however, I really believe, almost immediate namely, the carrying through of the telegraph line. I may say that whatever is done, Mr. Mackay will have to bear a great share of the credit. Indeed, in this respect it may be safely observed that Mr. Mackay has now the game in his own hands, and if he do not play it he will have none but himself to thank.
