POLICE COURT.— Thursday, Oct. 12.
(Before W. Fraser, Esq., It.M.) Drunkenness. Ellen Scudder and Duncan Bain were charged with being drunk. The lady pleaded guilty. The R.M. said there were fiv# previous convictions against her. She was being maintained on alimony from her husband, who would be justified in applying for the order against him to be rescinded if she continued this sort of conduct. Mrs Scudder said if his Worship would let her off this time she would go to Sydney foithwith. His Worship said she must pay 20s and costs or go to gaol for 48 hours. For the other ease of, drunkenness the accused, who was on bitil, did not appear, and his recognizance was ordered to be forfeited. Stealing from a Dwelling-house. —Ellen Peaton and Alexander Peaton were charged with stealing from the dwelling-house of R. Vincent one feather pillow and case, one sheet, two bars of soap, and three tumblers, the whole of the value of £l. Mr Bullen said the prisoners were only apprehended at a late hour last night, and he would therefore appty for a remand until next day in order to produce the necessary witnesses. Prisoners were remanded accordingly. Transfer of License. —An application by Charier Laird, adjourned from the previous day, for a transfer of license for the Post Office Hotel to J. T. Edwards, was granted. Music and Dancing. —Adam Orr applied for permission to have music and dancing in his licensed house, the Excelsior Hotel, this evening, 12th inst. The application was granted.
