GERALDINE DOMAIN BOARD.
The Geraldine Domain Board met on Tuesday evening. Present —Messrs A. White (chairman), W. S. Maslin, J. M. Sutherland, Geo. Ward, J. J. McCaskey, J. W. Pye, and W. H. Walton. STUMPING. Mr Walton moved, and Mr Sutherland seconded—“ That the men engaged in extracting black pine stumps in the bush get Is per cord extra, on account of the difficulty in working them.”—Carried DEPUTATION. Mr E. Robson, on behalf of the Geraldine Football Club, waited on the board asking permission to put up goal posts and prepare a football ground on the south end of the park. Mr Sutherland thought that the board intended in the first place to leave room for football ia the park. Mr Pye said that the football club had made a mistake in not being represented at the combined meeting of sports associations.
Mr Robson admitted the oversight, but stated that the members of the club then were young persons, and he thought those present might have looked after the interest of football. Besides, the impression was that, whatever happened, sufficient ground would be left for football. This had not been done, and of course they could not play football on the oval.
Mr Sutherland said that the board was not ignorant of the fact that no ground was being left for the football club, as he, for one, had stuck out for it from the first, although it slipped his memory when they were looking over the ground. The chairman said there would be no difficulty next year, for the football club could then play on the oval, but this year it would never do to play on the young grass. Resolved—“ That the football club be advised to apply to the lessee of the Park, for the permission requested.” TENDERS. Tenders were received for lease of grazing of 14 acres of the park for 7 years as under T. Herlighy, £ll ssper annum; R. H. Pearpoint, £ll 10s per annum ; Jas. Turner, £l4 14s per annum (accepted). THE PAVILION. The chairman explained that the pavilion had been successfully moved to a site near the swimming baths, and was now in first-class order. The stairway had bem taken from the front of the building, rid placed at the side, making more room for spectators, and the pavilion also had. been raised a few feet. What was wanted now badly was some support to prevent the building from being blown over. They would either have to fix buttresses against the building, or, better still, have a lean-to erected at the back, which could be used ns a dressing room for athletic sports and for bathers using the swimming bath. The chairman presented a plan he had drawn of the proposed alteration. Resolved—That tenders be called for building a lean-to at the pavilion in the park.” Resolved—“ That the chairman’s action be approved of with regard to alterations to the pavillion.” OLAV. Resolved —“ That the cycling club have permission to take clay from Forest Street for cycling track.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £27 Is were passed for payment. The board then rose.
