ATROCITIES IN ARMENIA.
Constantinople, Nov. 17. Atrocities have" been committed in Armenia owing to the refusal of the people to pay taxes. The Turkish troops fired on the people, killing thousands and destroying 23 villages. The Turkish commander accuses the British Consul at Vau, who reported the massacre, of having incited the populace to revolt. The Armenian Patriotic Association is sending a memorial to Earl Kimberley, British Secretary of State to the Foreign Department, urging that the Berlin signatories should replace the Turkish regime. The tales of the atrocities are appalling and it is alleged that the Turkish Government directly instigated violence. From six to ten thousand were slaughtered regardless of age or sex. Nine "hundred women after being outraged were hacked to pieces. The Armenian Press declare that some of the most attractive women were offered their lives if they abjured their faith, but they declined and were killed. The authorities here declare that Armenian brigands with insurgent Kurds outraged Musselmen and and that it was only by means of the Regulars that order was restored.
