THE COREAN TROUBLE.
Shanghai, Nov. 13. The Japanese captured plans of the torpedo defence of Taheu Wau, and and cleared the harbor of torpedoes. A hundred ladiesof the Court, the Ministers, and Europeans, have left Pekin. The Chinese viceroys have frustrated Captain Haunekin’a attempts at military reform. The viceroys’ action in frustrating Captain Hanuekin’s military reforms has caused popular discontentatthe imbecility of the Government, and a threatening attitude is being adopted towards them. Tokio,Nov. 15. The cost of the war to Japan up to date is estimated at £30,000,000. Linsankwan, in Manchuria, has been captured, the Chinese fleeing on the approach of the troops. The Japanese also captured a strong position 25 miles out ou Fort Arthur road. London, Nov. 14. European intervention in the Gorean war has failed, England being unable to act without Russia, who has made no reply to China’s appeal. No reply has yet been made by Japan to President Cleveland’s overtures. Nov. 15. China desires to treat with Japan for peace.
