GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Geraldine School Committee was held on Thursday | evening. Present—Messrs W. H. Walton (chairman), J. Riordan, D. McLeod, J. ; Boughton, and R. A. Borrows. 1 HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The head; master’s report was read, i showing the average attendance for the . present quarter, boys, 90; girls, 102; , total, 192; roll number, 260. The ati tendance was much lower than the at--1 tendance of the previous three quarters, 1 and the afternoon average attendance was invariably much lower than that of ! the morning. He directed the Committee’s attention to the School Attendance Ac*. He thought that if proper | representations were made to the board L it would be found possible to have the third|teacher’s salary materially increased, or else to obtain the services of an | additional paid pupil teacher. He had just received notice that the Inspector i would conduct his annual examination on November 26 and 27, and he asked that some blackboard renovator be procured. The school also required a new clock. CORRESPONDENCE. The Board wrote, informing Committee that the services of a pupil teacher, recently referred to would be retained until the end of the year. From same, that £9 2s 6d had been paid to the committee’s credit for incidentals. From same, that the Inspector would visit the school on November 26 and 27. From the Canterbury Progressive Liberal Association, asking the committee to send u delegate to attend a conference at Christchurch, on December 15, re the constitution of the governing body of the Canterbury College.—Committee can not send a delegate owing to the expense. From Mr James Colbert, resigning his position in the school, and asking for a testimonial.—Same to be given. attendance. It was decided to obtain a copy of the new Attendance Bill, and take steps to enforce same. PUPIL TEACHER. Resolved— “ That wo apply to the board for an extra pupil teacher, and that the Rev. Mr Barclay and Mr Pearpoint be asked to assist us in obtaining same.” THE SCHOOL. It was resolved that the chairman obtain a bottle of blackboard renovator; that the head master be asked to collect pen and ink fees to cover the cost of nibs —if it cannot be done no more nibs to be supplied; that birds’ nests bo cleaned from spouting in school. VISITORS. The visitors reported visiting the school and finding everything in good order. Messrs Walton and Boughton were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS. A few accounts were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
