CRICKET.
ENGLAND V. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Adelaide, Nov, 10.. Yesterday there was fine weather for the opening day of the match England v. South Australia. The visitors went first to the wickets, and at the close of the day’s play had lost 5 wickets for 340 runs. The innings closed to-day for 477 runs, Brown 115, Ford CO, and Stoddart 55 being the chief scorers. When the stumps were drawn for the day South Australia had lost 4 wickets for 155. It is definitely understood that the English cricketers will not visit New Zealand, and it is doubtful whether either Queensland or Fiji will pay their proposed visits this year. At Wellington the match between Canterbury and Wellington resulted in au easy win for Wellington, Wellington obtained a load of 58 iu their first innings, and declared their second innings closed with 7 wickets down for2G2, With three hours to play Canterbury needed to make 321 to wjn and at the call of time had put together 168 runs for the loss of five wickets. At Dunedin tho match Southland v. Otago was continued in fine weather, and won by Otago by 176 runs.
