CANTERBURY SPRING MEETING. Christchurch, November 10. For the third day there was not a large attendance, and a strong nor’-west wind made .matters unpleasant. Results : Spring Nursery Handicap, of 150 sovs ; second 15 sovs; 5 furlongs.—Safeguard, Bst 31b, 1; Alcestis, 7st 21b, 2; Euroclydou, Bst 51b, 3. Time, 47sec; dividends, £2 12s and £2 12s fid. The Oak Stakes, of 10 sovs each, with 200 added ; second horse, 30 sovs ; third horse, 20 sovs; miles.—Blue Fire, 1; Neroli, 2; Terediua, 3. Time, 2min 46Jsec; dividends, £1 3s fid and £1 2s fid. Canterbury Cup, of 10 sovs each, with 500 added ; second horse, 75 sovs; third horse, 25 sovs ; 2£ miles.—Prime Warden, 9st 81b, 1; Casket, 7st 61b, 2 ; Lady Zetland, 9st 11b, 3. Skirmisher also ran. 1 Lady Zetland was first away, followed by Casket and Prime Warden. As they ran round the top turn Casket took command and came down the straight and past the stand well clear of Lady Zetland, Prime Warden next, Skirmisher last. At Cutts’ the field closed on the leader, and on going down the back stretch Prime Warden supplanted Casket and ran down past the kennels just clear of Lady Zetland, Skirmisher and Casket side by side. Prime Warden was still in front as they swept round the top turn with Skirmisher and Lady Zetland in difficulties, and when the straight was reached, strode on and won as he liked by five lengths from Casket, Lady Zetland lengths away third, Skirmisher pulling up last. Time, 4miu 4Jsec; dividends, £1 15s and £2 fis. Jockey Club Handicap, of 3 sovs each, with 300 added ; second horse, 30 sovs; 1 mile.—Royal Rose, 1 ; Au Revoir, 2; Saracen,3. Time, Imin 43sec; dividends, £6 13s and £7 ss. Curragh Steeplechase, of 200 sovs; second horse, 20 sovs; about 3 miles.— Roscius, 1 ; Booties, 2 ; Nauakia, 3. Time, 6 min 37sec. The Electric Plate, of 100 sovs ; 4 furlongs.—Golden Fleece, 1; Blue Fire, 2; Britomarte, 3. Time, 47sec; dividends, £l2 10s fid and £l2 los. Tattersall’s Plate, of 100 sovs ; 6 furlongs.—Georgie Sharp, 1; Wedlock, 2; Sunrise, 3. Dividends, £6 14s and £3 9s. Farewell Handicap, of 100 sovs ; 1 mile. —St. Clements, 1; Barmby, 2; Goodwood, 3. Time, Imiu 43sec; dividends, £7 13s and £5 3s fid. The sum of' £11,474 was put through the machine on Saturday, making a grand total for the meeting of £39,068. VICTORIA SPRING MEETING. The Victoria Spring Meeting was continued on Saturday. The Spring Stakes was won by Preston, Flemiugtou Stakes by Anraria, V.R.C. Handicap by Quiver, Steeplechase by Timoui, Canterbury Plate by The Harvester (Carnage second), and the Free Handicap by The Possible.

THE RACING CONFERENCE

At the racing conference at Wellington the report of the committee which recommended that the racing conference should be continued, that a committee should be appointed to act during the recess as a court of appeal, that a committee to be called the district racing committee should be appointed iu each metropolitan district and detailing the functions of these committees, was adopted. It was resolved that the recommendations of the report come into force on August 1,1895, but that they should not be binding on any .club which may give notice before the meeting of the next conference that they do uot wish to come under these resolutions. The question of the reduction by one-third of the licenses granted for the use of the totalisator to be made in each metropolitan district was gone into, and the following arrangement for the year 1895-96 was agreed to; Auckland district—s metropolitan meetings, 18 country meetings ; Canterbury—--4 meetings, 19 country meetings; Duuediu —4 meetings, 28 country meetings; Greymonth—2 meetings, 1 country meeting; Hawke’s Bay—4 meetings, 10 country meetings; Marlborough—2 meetings, 1 country meeting; Nelson—l meeting, 2 country meetings; Taranaki—2 meetings, 6 country meetings; Wanganui—3 meetings, 10 country meetings; Wellington—3 meetings, 8 country meetings; total—-133 meetings, as against 200 meetings held formerly. The chairman was authorised to write to the Colonial Secretary on tho subject.
