CRICKET.

TEMUKA V. GERALDINE. The first elevens of these clubs played their first match of the jeason at Temuka on Saturday. The day was not a good one for cricket, as there was a cold Bou-west wind and the light was bad during the latter half of the play. The Geraldinfl men started batting Beckett and Sugden, being their first pair to wield the willow. The former player was missed twice in the field before he had scored half-a-dozen'; he then settled down to steady scoring, and ran up 38 before he was dismissed by Gillespie. Sugden was bowled by Low after making 13. B. R. Macdonald was taken at long slip by McLean just when he was getting dangerous. W. K. Macdonald and Fish both made a short stay, . Pearpoint and Kalaugher, the next pair, made a long stand, the former hitting out well at bowling of all sorts, several changes being made. Kalaugher kept up his end well, his score including a terrific drive for 4. When the score had reached 133 the Geraldine captain closed the innings. Father Malone and Gillespie started >he batting for Temuka. The former player, who is a new member of the club, played carefully for half-a-dozen overs and then was caught by Pearpoint from a miss hit. Gillespie was just getting into scoring form when he put a soft one into Bethune's hands at square leg. Ferguson f o iJf>«red ; and almost at pnce ran himself ont. LoW and McLean followed, the latter soon falling: a victim to FisQl I)ann and Low then made a stand long enough to make a draw a certainty, 23 runs being put on before a curly one from Si sa Deat Low. Danu followed two runs later, caught at square leg. Time was called before the next batsman had scored. A few of the players on each side fielded well. More practice will no doubt soon show good results with the others. The following are the scores :
