SIDNEY, Opt. 14The contractor who undertook to work the Greta colliery at day wages has abandoned the task, at which the unionists are jubilant, as their predictions that the scheme on which work was resumed would fail has been fulfilled. The colliery resumes work to-morrow at 2s fid hewing rate. Melbourne, Oct. 12. The boot operatives have rejected the masters proprosal, for a minimum wage, and decided to adhere to the old statement. Dunedin, Oct. 13. The Executive of the Workers Union deny that they in any way influenced the Government to refuse police protection to Benmore station. They also scout the idea that violence was ever contemplated.
