TIMARU PRESBYTERY.

The Presbytery of Timaru met at Geraldine on Tuesday, October 2nd, at 11 a.m. Present The Revs. W, Kelly (moderator), W. Gillies, J. Diokscm, W. J. Cromie, and A. B. Todd; also Messrs J. Goldie and Thomas Morrison (elders). AI'OLOGV. An apology for non-attendance through illness was read from Mr White. WELCOME. VISITATION. Tho visitation to the congregation then took placo. The ropresoutativos of the session were Messrs D. Shaw and A. McKenzie ; and of tho managers Messrs , N. Duulup (treasurer), K. McKonzio

(secretary), James Shaw, and G. Brown There were also present : Messrs W. Hewson, A. Irvine, and A. Rose. After the questions appointed to be put to the minister and office-bearers had been answered, the following resolution, was agreed to :—" The Presbytery having received satisfactory answers to the appointed questions, and considered the information given, resolve to place on record its satisfaction at the general state of matters in the congregation ; to congratulate the minister and office-bearers on the evidences of good work being done in all departments; to sympathise with them in the difficulties incident to a large and scattered district; to direct attention to the great importance of work among the young; and to commend to their more earnest and liberal support the general schemes of the Church, especially the Home and foreign missions, and trust that they may soon be able to reduce their church debt. The Presbytery further expresses its hope that by a continued unity of effort on the part of the membership co-operating with the minister and office bearers, the congregation may enjoy Btill more abundant prosperity, and by the Divine blessing be enriched in all christian and spiritual life." Attention was drawn to special collections to be taken. PAKIHI. The Rev. Mr Todd reported that he and the Rev. Mr Dickson had visited the district of Pakihi, as appointed by the Presbytery. On the motion of the Rev. Mr Gillies, seconded by Mr Goldie, it was unanimously resolved "That Pakihi be attached to Temuka, and that ihe Rev. Mr Dickson be requested to give such services as he can." CONFERENCE. v In the afternoon the presbyteyy met at 3 o'clock and held a conference on the state of religion and morals. Several members of the congregation were present and took part in the discussion. The subjects of gambling, Sabbath desecration, worldliness, temperance, and amusements were dwelt on with much earnestness by the various speakers. EVENING SITTING. In the evening at 7.30 the presbytery met with the congregation, a large number of whom were present. Addresses were delivered by the Rev. Mr Dickson on " The duty of the Christian towards amusements " ; by the Rev. Mr Cromie on " The Christian's duty towards temperance"; the Rev. Mr Robb, on "The Christian in business" ; and the Rev. Mr Kelly, on" Giving to the Lord." On the motion of Mr Colin McKenzie, seconded by the Rev. Mr Todd, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the members of the Presbytery for their visit and the work they had done that day. ..'■•■■' Mr Todd remarked that all must have received stimulus and encouragement from the variouß addresses given. During the evening several appropriate hymns were sung.
