DRAIN PLOUGH TRIAL.

A trial of one of Brown’s drain ploughs was given at Mr H. Lee’s farm, Middle Swamp Road, under the auspices of the local agents, Messrs H. B. Webster & Co., yesterday. There was a large attendance of farmers who were more particularly interested in the result of the trial, as the land to be worked is partly drained swamp, and it was generally supposed there would be a lot of timber to be encountered, A full description of this plough has already appeard in this paper, and we can merely add that it was drawn by eight splendid horses, lent for the occasion by Mr F. Parke, who himself took charge of the team. After lunch, kindly provided by Mr H. Lee, a start was made in the middle paddock, the plough being put to work close to a main drain on the west. The plough was worked all over the paddock, and from start to finish went admirably, the water following the drain furrow freely. One large tree was encountered, but the plough was not stopped and no damage was done. After working some hours all present were fully satisfied with the trial, and a general opinion was expressed that the implement is one which will prove a perfect boon to farmers who have heavy clay or smarnp lands. Several ploughs were ordered on the ground, but a further trial is to be made on the Waitohi Flat on Friday next, when Mr W. Walker proposes to substitute a traction engine for a horse team.
