CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS, The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association of Canterbury, Limited, report for the week ending August 10th, 1894, as follows Whfcat->-A brisk demand has existed during the week, snd several large lines have changed hands at a shape over former rates, mixed samples of tuscan, pearl, and hunters finding owner* at up to 2s 9d f.o b., sacks extra. Oats—The demand is quiet, and prices remain about the same. Prime heavy Canadians are saleable at up to Is 8d; ordinary from Is 7d to Is 71d; duns, Is Cid to ls7id; dauish, Is 5d to Is 6d, f.0.b., sacks extra. Barley—Only a limited quantity on offer. Prime malting, 3a 8d to 3s lOd ; medium, 3s to 3s 6d ; inferior, 2s to 2s 9d. Beans and Peas—Dull of sale. Blue pruasiau peas from 2s 6d to 2s 9d; partridge, 2s 7d to 2s Bd, Beans, 2s Id to 2s 6d, f.o.b. Potatoes —The demand has virtually collapsed, buyers only operating to till coastal orders. Prices nominally, 17s 6d to 20s at country stations, sacks extra. Gras* Seed—ln fair demand, and values remain firm at—Machine dressed, 4s 4d to 4s Gd; ordinary, 4s; farmers undressed samples, 2s 3d to 3s 3d. Cocksfoot Machine dressed, 5d to 5Jd; ordinary, 4d to 4§d. Red clover and cnwgross, 6d to Gfcd. Cheese —Large, 4 d ; loaf, 4}d, Butter — t'fhnO fresh lOd ; salt, 7d. Bacon ami Rams —7id to Bd. Oaten Sheaf Chaff—Very dull of a 2 le ' Prime bright samples, GOs to Gss; medium, 55s to GOs, f.0.b., sacks iftpluded. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKET, At the Addington Yards on Wednesday all classes of stock wore well represented, and though the attendance was small, business showed a fairly healthy tone. Fat Cattle—l 27 head of fat cattle wore yarded, more than half of which sold privately. Cows and heifers predominated. Beef remains at about 21s per 1001 b.
Steers fetched £6 10s to £B, heifers £4 12s 6d to £7 2s 6d, cows £6 5s to £lO Dairy Cattle—A medium yarding of dairy cattle sold as follows Springers £3 10s to £9, dry cows £2 to £5. Store Cattle —The yarding of store cattle was larger than has been the case lately, but the entry consisted of aged beasts and poor specimens of young cattle, and practically no business was done. Fat Sheep—There was a good entry of fat sheep, and the quality was the best that has been seen at the yards for some time. All good sheep sold well, some picked lines bringing very high prices, prime freezers 2Jd per lb (factory weights), butchers’ best up to 2Jd. Crossbred prime heavy weights fetched 19s to 21s Od, freezing quality 16s to 18s, secondary sorts I2s 6d to 14s 6d, best crossbred ewes 13s to 15a, secondary 9s 6d to 12s 6d, merino wethers (extra prime) 14s to 16s, prime 9s to 10s 6d, secondary 5s 6d to 7s, merino ewes 6s to 10s 6d. Store Sheep—Stores were well represented, and sold at up to late rates. Hoggets brought 7s to 10s 3d, mixed 2-tooths lls to 12a Bd, crossbred ewes in lamb 8s to 12s 7d. Pigs—A fair entry sold at last week’s rates. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—The demand for this remains very brisk, prices show decided improvement all round. The reason is priii cipally due to the poor and inferior yield last season. Prime velvet is scarce and receiving most enquiry. Quotations ; Choice velvet, 3s lsd ; prime, up to 3s Id; tuscan, 2s to 3s; ordinary, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; medium, 2s 7d to 2s 8d; fowls’ feed in good demand at from 2s 3d to 2s 6d.
Oats—There has been little inquiry (or these during the week, and very few lines have been offering. Prime milling and feed, la 5d to Is 6£d; good stout, la 4sd to Is 4|d; medium, la to Is 4d. Long tartars, no demand. Seeds—Extra choice old pasture ryegrass 4s 6d, prime old pasture 4a to 4s 3d, good 3s 9d to 3s lOd per bushel; cocksfoot —beat s£d to 6d, good 5d to s£d, medium 4£d to 4£d per lb. Clovers on application. Chaff—lf really prime up to £2 15s; good, £2 10s to £2 12a 6d.
Potatoes—Easier. Best derwents are worth £2 2b 6d to £2 5s ; good, £L 17s 6d to £2.
Sheepskins—A good demand continues to exist for these. At auction on Tuesday late rates were fairly maintained, country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, fetching Is 6d to 2s 8d; do do merino, Is 4d to Is 9d; medium to good crossbreds, 2s 9d to 3s lOd ; extra heavy, 4s 3d to 6s 6d; good to best merinos, Is lOd to 2s 6d; extra heavy, 2s lOd to 3s 3d; dry pelts, Id to Is 6d; best green crossbreds, 3s lOd to 4s 6d; extra heavy, 4s 7d to 4s 9d; medium to good, 3s 3d to 3a 9d; green merinos, Is 9d to 2s Bd. Hides—A moderate demand exists, and prices remain steady at about equal to those ruling for the last 12 months or more. Quotations: For best, 601 b and over, 2£d to 3d; medium weights, to 2d ; inferior and light, Id to l£d per lb. Tallow and Fat— The market is quiet; no transactions of any importance passing. Quotations: For best rendered mutton, 18s 6d to 20s ; medium to good, 15s 6d to 17s 6d ; inferior to medium, 12s 6d to 15s; best mutton caul fat, 12s 9d to 13s ; medium to good, 11s 6d to 12s 6d; inferior to medium, 10s to 11s per cwt. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—Bo yarded, mostly medium quality and light weights. Brisk demand, with a substantial rise in prices. Bullocks sold at £7 15s to £lO 7s 6d ; cows, £6 to £8 7s 6d. Fat Sheep —175 merino wethers of medium quality and 1942 crossbreds, yarded, about half of which were good quality wethers. For best lota the demand for freezers kept the recent values up, and in some instances advanced prices of, say Is to Is 6d, a head, were paid, low class quality meeting but moderate sale. Best wethers sold at 13s to 16s for extra, others 10s 6d to 12s 9d ; best ewes 12s to 15s 9d for extra; others 9s to 11s 3d; merino wethers 8s 9d to 10s 6d. Pigs—Only 62 yarded, most y suckers and slips. A few porkers sold well at 31s to 445; suckers, 10s to 14s; slips, 16s to 18s. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS, Sydney, August 8. Wheat, chick, 2d 8d to 2s 9d ; milling, nominally, 2s lid to 3s. Flour, roller-made, nominally, £7 5s to £7l6s. Oats, prime feeding, 2s to 2a id. Maize, 2s 3d. Barley, Cape, 3s. Bran, B|d; pollard, 7d. Peas, Prussian blue, 3s 9d. Potatoes, Lcally grown, £2 7s 6d to £2lßs; Circular Head, £2 7s 6d to £2los. Onions, £9 16s to £lO. Butter, dairy-made, 9d to 10d; factorymade, Is. Cheese, prime, 3id to 4d. Bacon, prime cured, 3d. Melbovbne, August 8. Wheat, 2s Id. Oats, Algerian, Is 8d; stout milling, Is lid. Maize, Is lid. Barley, Cape, 2s 2d; prime malting, 6s 3d to 4d, Bran, 6£d; polled, 7jd. At the half-yearly meeting of tjje Bank of Victoria, a dividend of 6 per eeut. op both preference and ordinary shares was declared, absorbing £28,000. The sum of £6OOO has been carried forward. Apmmpb, August 8. Wheat, 2s 2d. Bran, 6jd; pollard, 7£d, MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL LOiVdon, August 7. Silver, 2s 4 11/16d per ounce. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,910,000 quart-rs, and for the Continent 1,290,000 quarters. The American visible supply of wheat is 69,700,000 bushels. The imports for the past month have decreased by £1,447,000 and exports by £1,252,000 English wheat is scarce. The market is very firm.
