WATER RACE DISTRICTS.
ORARI-WAIHI. The monthly meeting of the OrariWaihi Water Supply Committee was held on Monday evening. Present —Messrs Thatcher C. Hewson, W. Hewson, McLean, and McKenzie. The chairman brought before the committee the fact that the cutting was in a very unsatisfactory state, and that owing to a slip having occurred and blocking the water he had to put a man on to assist the ranger to dear it oat; the shingle, etc.* was st'U falling in, and a serious block might occur at any time. The ranger’s report was read and considered and his month’s salary was passed for payment, with seven days’ extra work he had done at the cutting. An account from Mr Kemster for £2 ss, for work in helping the ranger at the slip, and 9s fid, for timber required for staging, were passed for payment. The county council sent to the committee for their consideration certain correspondence that had taken place between Mr W. Postlethwaite, Mr M. 0. Orbell, and the council, relative to the surplus water that went qn to the Raukapuka estate from the Orari-Wuhi district. After careful consideration of the subject it was proposed, seconded, and carried—“ That the committee, taking into consideration the agreement made with Mr W. Postlethwaite, endorse the action of the connc s ’. at their meeting of the 12th of July, 1894, and consider that the agreement made with Mr W. Poetic thwaite is binding in Mr Orbell’s case/* This being all the business the committee rose.
WOODBURY. The monthly meeting of the Woodbtu/ Water Supply Committee was held on Saturday, August 4th, 1894. Correspondence was read from the County Council, approving of Committee’s past actions, and intimating that all minor matters are eut ; rely in their hands to settle; also forwarding the list of ratepayers asked for, which requires a little alteration, which Messrs McDonald and Brown wi’l see to. The list will be returned to County Council, and a copy inserted in the minute book. It was only after the meeting rose that the ranger’s report came to hand, which was as follows :—“ I have been over all the races the last few days, and fonudthem passable, the head works are all right. The top race asked for Messrs J. and W. Shaw has been satisfactorily done.” This terminated the business.
