Ti.MiMSRANCE Lkoislatiox. — A deputation. comprising- nearly fifty temperance woj iters, waited on Sir Robert Stout on Wednesday morning to ascertain the present position of liquor legislation in the House, aud to ask advice as to tile bc*st course for them to pursue in future. In reply. Sir Robert Stout stated what had been done in the. House so far this session, and said that if member.*? would keep their pledges there would be tio .difficulty in pas-'ing a short Bill to right many of the absurdities ol the Alcoholic Biquor Sale Control Bill, lie favored the introduction of clause giving more power to committees, and opposed the consolidated Bill of i )0 clauses mentioned by the Brenner, as the result would only be a waste of time. Ho urged that that there should he sufficient police control, or if not temperance legislation would fail. lie said that tin: utmost vigilance was necessary on the putt of the temperance party.
