London, July 13. At a conference at .Newcastle, attended by representatives of 400,000 English miners, it was decided to levy Is per week to assist the Scotch miners out on strike. July 14 Phelp, one of the strike leaders, has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for interfering* with the railways. 'WISHiNGTON, July 13. Railway traffic generally has been resumed. The Chicago strikers have, conspired to destroy the terminus of the Illinois Central Railway by means of dynamite. A deputation of unemployed, who alleged that they represented 200 men, waited on the mayor of Dunedin on Saturday, to ask him to urge on the Government to get them something to do. The labour bureau, co-operative works, and borrowing were, discussed. The mayor decided to telegraph to the Premier on the subject. There are only 48 names on the books of the Labor Bureau at Dunedin. Mr Farnie, who is in charge, denies that there ib any unfairness in the manner in Wuich men are selected.
