London, June 26. Sir W. V, Harcourt, replying to Sir G. Baden Powell, denied that,. ; he. had arrived at an agreement with the colonies' respecting the estate duties, but he claimed that a proposal had been made which would have the effect of removing all practical difficulties^ An amendment to reduce the beer duty 3d was defeated by a majority of 18. June 28. Sir G. Baden Powell has given notice to move a new danse, that the estate duties shall not apply to colonies with responsible government. Sir W. V. Harconrt’s new draft clause requires reciprocal deductions in the colonies. The Opposition coraplaiu that, the Government applied the closure in the debate on the spirit duties in disregard of the compact that a division should not take ploce till to-day. Many who had left the House declare that they will debate the subject again at the report stage of the Bill.
