GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Geraldine School Committee was held on Thuraday evening. Present —Messrs W. H. Walton (chairman), R. Borrows, T. Sherratt, J. Riordan, J. Boughton, and P. D.\ Herdman. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The head master reported the average attendance for quarter to date was 198, being three lower than previous quarter ; roll number, 249. Notiges stmt oqt by committee to irregular attenders have had little effect for good. As pupil teachers have to present themselves for examination in Timaru on July 3rd and succeeding days, it was necessary to make provision for the winter holidays. The roads at the south-eastern entrance to the school were in a disgrageful stufe, IRREGULAR ATTENDBRS. Resolved that- legal proceedings be taken in six of tho worst cases of nonattendance of children at school. WINTER HOLIDAYS. It was decided that tho school be closed for winter holidays fron. June 29th to July 10 th. SCHOOL ROAD. The secretary was instructed to write to the Geraldiue Town Board, drawing their attention to tho noed of a few loads of shingle on the road Lading to the school. INSPECTOR’S REIOKT. The inspector’s report jvas road and considered very satisfactory. visitors. I The visitors reported viating the school and finding everything h good order. Messrs R. Board were likely to take this year with respect to celebrating Arbor Day on August Ist, before making any effort to collect funds. It was considered that if children were te take part in the proceedings they should be provided with refreshments, and money would require to be collected for that purpose. SCHOOL CONCERT. Mr P. D. Herdman thought that the school children should have a concert this year in aid of school funds, and he moved —“ That Mr Sugden be written to, asking him if the newly-formed minstrel company would assist.” The motion was seconded and carried. The committee then rose.
