CONCERT AT PLEASANT VALLEY.

On Friday night .last a concert was held in the Pleasant Valley schoolroom in aid of the school funds. There was a cipital attendance, and all seemed to enjoy the programme. The first part opened with an overture on the piano by Miss Gimson, which was played with much expression, and was loudly applauded. Mr Borrows was heartily applauded for his excellent rendition of “ Mary of Argyle.” Miss Morrison then s uig “ The song that reached my heart ” v ry sweetly. Mr Calder followed with «• A Soldier and a Man,” which he sang in good style. Then followed a comic song, “ Enniscorthy,” by Mr J. Colbert, which was encored, and he responded by singing “ Dear me, is that possible V’ which took well with the audience. Mr P. D. Herdman sang, with much expression, “ Aftou Water,” and was loudly applauded. “ The wearing o’ the Green ” was sung very well by Miss Gregan, and, in response to an encore, gave “ Mother’s old red shawl.” Mr Erskine was encore I for his energetic rendition of “ Home, boys, home,” and repeated the last verso. Mi<s Gregan was encored for a song about “ Geraldine.” and gave “ Grandma’s adv co.” The first part was brought to au end by a comic song in character, entitled <! The Coventry christening,” by Mr 13. B. Macdonald. This took immensely, and in response to an encore ho repeated the last verse. Mr Sugdou opened the second part with an overture on the piano. TheVmg “ Quoeon of my heart,” *vas sung splendidly by Me Borrows

and received great applause. Miss Gregan was encored for the song “ The Flower Girl ” and repeated the last verse. The next item was the trio “ A little farm well tilled,” by Messrs Calder, Borrows, and Colbert, and it fairly brought down the house and had to be repeated. Miss L. Gregan then sang “ There’s a dear spot in Ireland ” and wis loudly applauded. Mr Calder followed with “ The Old Brigade”; and Miss Morrison was loudly applauded for “Kate O’Shane,” which she sang very feelingly. Mr Herdman gave a pretty song “Tell her I love her so,” which was well received. Mr B. R. Macdonald closed the second part by singing, in character, “ Yes, I’ll have em,” in which he made a few local hits, and was encored. Mr Dunlop (chairman) made a few flattering remarks on the concert, performers, and especially the chairman of the committee (Mr Brophy). Mr Brophy replied,and thanked all who helped, mentioning Mr J. P, Kalaugher, the headmaster, for the great services he rendered to the success of the concert, A dance was held afterwards, about 50 couples being present, Mr 0. Burke supplied good music, while Mr A. McKay proved himself to be a splendid M.C. ,
