WAITOHI FLAT SCHOOL ANNUAL CONCERT.

A concert was held in the Waitohi Flat School on Friday last, which was, as usual a great success, both financially and for the quality of the talent displayed. Mr C Dickson opened the concert with a very well rendered song, “ The minute gun at sea.” The Pearce family followed with a violin quartette, which was very artistically rendered. The next item was a song by Miss Halstead, “ The wishing cap,” for which she was loudly applauded. Mr Williams received a good deal of applause for a comic song, of which we did not get the name, and Miss Smith (Point) followed with the song “ The old lock,” which was very nicely sang. Mr J. McCaskill sang “ Scotland yet.” The next item, a violin solo by Mr f. Pearce, was well given. Miss Taylor made a good impression with her song, “ The march of the Cameron men,” but the event of this part of the concert was perhaps a sailor’s hornpipe in costume by Mr D. Brieu, for which he was deservedly applauded. Miss Smith (lemuka) sang “FloraMcDonald’sLameut” with a good deal of expression, and Mr Kirk made quite a furore with a comic gong, a parody on “ When other lips,” Which concluded ihs first part of the pro<rramme. After an interval of ten minutes, the Pearce family opened the s : c o nd part with a violin quartette, which was well executed. Miss Smith (Temuka) was very successful with her song “ The Scottish Bluebells.” A .dog hornpipe, in costume, by Mr Williams received r >ars of applause. Miss Taylor next amg very nicely “ Melvi Is Castle.” Mr McCaskill was loudly applauded for his song, “ Miss Hoolighan’a Christmas cake,” aid Alisa Smith (Point) sang in good style “ Napoleon and Josephiae,” A v'.olin solo by Mr T. Pearce was executed i . his usual masterly style. Mr Williams a jpeared to great advantage in his next song, “The old clay pipe,” and Miss Halstead sang very well indeed “Belle Mahoue.” Mr C. Dixon’s humorous song, entitled “The Englishman, the Irishman, and the Scotchman, ’ was applauded, and Mr Kirk fairly brought down the house with his song “Deary me.’ ’ N early all the events were encored aud responded to. Mr R. McLeod and Miss McCaskill played the accompaniments with taste. At the close of the concert a dance was held, at which Mr E. Lee (Pleasant Point) acted as M. 0., and Mr Thornley contributed capital music. The catering of Mr J . McCaskill left nothing to bo desired, and Mr Forsyth was warmly thanked for the loan of a piano. The concert was mainly arranged by Mr T- Talbot, who is to be congratulated upon its success.
