COMMERCIAL.
CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association of Canterbury, Limited, report for the week ending June 15th, 1894, as follows : During the week there haß been brisk enqniry for most descriptions of produce, the cheap freights next week inducing business. Wheat is in much the same position as when we last reported, and offerings are on a very limited scale. The recent advance in England has not so far affected our market. Oats have had improved demand, and duns and tartars for seed purposes show an advance. An occasional parcel of barley still comes forward, and sells at full rates. Beans and peas are lifeless. Ryegrass and Cocksfoot have intermittent enquiries, and both are firmly held. Potatoes have maintained their position, solely due to the limited quantity offering for prompt delivery. Kidney and early sorts are in brisk demand at full rates. Dairy produce is unchanged. Present quotations, f.o.b. Lyttelton, sacks extra : Wheat —New crop, pearl or velvet, 2s 6d; tuscan, 2ssd; hunters, 2s 4d; old, 2d per bushel extra. Oats—Milling Canadians, Is 7d; short feed, Is 6d; duns, Is 6d to Is 7d; danish, lssd.
Barley—Prime malting, 3s 8d to 4s; Medium, 3s to 3s 6d; inferior, 2s to 2s Bd. Peas—Blue, 2s 6d ; Partridge, 2s 6d. Beans, 2s sd. Potatoes —25 s 26s at country stations; kidneys, 60s to 80s. Ryegrass—Old pasture, machine dressed 4s 3d; ordinary, 3s 9d to 4s; farmers' samples 2s 6d to 3s. Cocksfoot—lslb per bushel,4Jd; lighter, 3dto4d.
Red Clover and Cowgrass, 5d to 6d. Cheese —Large, 4d; loaf, 4§d. Butter—Prime fresh, 9d; salt,6d to 7d. Bacon and Hams, Bd. Oaten Sheaf Chaff, 60s, f.o>b., sacks included.
CHRISTCHURCH STOCK, MARKET.
At the Addington Yards on Wednesday the attendance was fairly good, but business was anything but animated. Fat Cattle—A medium yarding of fat cattle met with poor competition, butchers' wants being small, and a number of beasts were passed. Steers sold at £4 10s to £Bl7s 6d, heifers £6 2s 6d, cows £4l2s 6d to £B.
Store Cattle—Store cattle were poorly represented and very little business was done. Springers were quitted at £3 10s to £9 10s, dry cows £2 to £5, two and three-year-old steers £4 to £5, eighteen-months-old cattle from £2los to £3 2s 6d, yearlings £llos to £2 15s. Fat Sheep—About 3000 fat sheep were penned, mainly medium, quality crossbreds, with a good sprinkling of merinos. Prime freezers and heavy sorts were in demand, but secondary and inferior kinds were somewhat neglected. Crossbred prime heavy weights sold at 14s to 16s Bd, secondary 9s to 13s, best crossbred ewes 12s to 13s 3d, secondary 6s to 10s, best merino wethers 8s to 10s, secondary 4s 6d to 7s, merino ewes 5s to 6s lid. Fat Lambs —In fat lambs a small entry sold at 7s 6d to lis Id for prime, and 6s to 8s for secondary. Store Sheep—ln store sheep the entry was small, and business was done with difficulty. Forward turnipers were quitted at 8s 7d to 10s, secondary 5s to 7s 6d, crossbred breeding ewes 5s Id to 6s, crossbred lambs 6s 5d to 7s lOd. Pigs—A medium entry sold at priceß equal to 3Jd to 3£d per lb for baconers and porkers. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—Prime milling, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; extra prime, Id more; good to medium qualities, 2s 5d to 2s 7d; good whole fowl feed, 2s 3d. Prime samples sell readily, also good to medium qualities if in condition. Bad conditioned lots hard to quit unless for fowl feed. Oats—ln fair demand, and sell readily at quotations. Good milling, Is 6d to Is 6£d; best bright Bhort feed, Is sjd to Is 6d ; discolored lots, Is 2d to Is 4d; off trucks, sacks extra. Barley—Buyers not anxious to operate unless at a reduction in price. Prime malting, up to 3s 9d; milling, 2s 9d to 3s 3d; feed, 2s to 2s 6d.
Potatoes—Prime derwentß £2 7s 6d to £2 12s 6d (market glutted with medium and inferior lots, which sell at low prices); kidneys—good small seed wanted, at £3 5s to £3 10s; large and inferior not saleable unless at a big reduction. Cockßfoot—Demand good for heavy seed; light and inferior lots not so much inquired after, from 4d to 6|d per lb. Ryegrass—Machine-dressed, 3a 3d to 4=B; farmers' Jots, 2s 3d to 3a, Chaff tt- Best well-out oaten sheaf, £2l2s 6d to £2 17s 6d; medium to good, £2 7s 6d to £2 10s.
Luiseed—£lo 10s to £l2 (for really prime), per ton. Pigs—Good quality, suitable sizes, 4d per lb. Salt Butter—Prime, 7sd (oases Is each.) lis 6d. Hops—(Prime Nelson), lOd per lb.f Honey—Best extracted, 4d; other sorts, from 3d.
Sheepskins —At auction on Tuesdaycountry dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, were fetching Is 8d to 2a lOd; do do merino, Is 5d to Is lOd; medium to fullwoolled crossbreds, 8b to 4s 7d—extra heavy slightly more; full-woolled merinos, good to best, 2s 3d to 3s 3d ; extra heavy, 3s Cd to 4s ; dry pelts, Id to Is 6d; best green crossbred skins, 3s 6d to 3s lOd ; extra heavy, 3s lid to 4s 6d; medium to good, 3s to 3b 6d; green merinos, Is 3d to 2s 3d.
Hides —• These have a very steady demand. Quotations : For heavy, 2d to 2£d; extra do (601 b and over), 2Jd to 3d; medium, ljd to lfd; light and inferior, Id to lid per lb. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS
At the Burnsido Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted :
Fat Cattle—Only 155 head yarded. There was a brisk demand, and prices ruled much the same as those obtained last week. Best bullocks sold at £9 5s to .ill; medium do, £G 15s to £Blss ; light do, £4 5s to £5 17s Gd ; cows and heifers, £3 15a to £8 10s.
Fat .Sheep—233B yardod, about 350 of that number being merinos, Fi.r prime crossbred wethers and maiden owes there was a brisk demand, but aged owes, unless really prime, mot a slow sale. Except at tho closo of the sale, prices were no bettor than thoso obtained last week. A fow picked crossbred wethors sold at 10s Gd to
17s 9d; a pen of extra heavy crossbred ewes, 16s; prime heavy crossbred wethers, 14s 6d to 15s 9d; medium do, 12s to 14s; light do, 10s to lis 9d; prime crossbred ewes, 13s 6d to 14s 6d; ordinary do, 8s to 10s 6d; merino wethers, 4s 6d to 9s 6d. Fat Lambs —206 yarded, nearly all of good quality. There was a fair demand, and best pens met a ready Bale. Best sold at 8s 9d to 9s 6d, medium 6s 9d to 7s 9d, small, 4s 6d to 6s. Pigß—ll2 were penned. There was a I very poor demand, and priceß for all descriptions were in favor of buyers. Suckers sold at 6b 6d to 13s 6d; slips, 115 s6d to 17s; stores, 18s to 225; porkers, i 24s to 28b 6d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, June i 3. Wheat, chick, 2s 7d to 2s 9d; milling, 2s 9d, nominal. Flour, roller-made, £7 10s to £7 15s. Oats, prime feeding, 2s 2d; seed, 2s 4d. Maize, prime, Is lOd. Barley, Cape, 3s to 3s 2d. Bran,Bd; pollard, 7Jd. Peas, Prussian blue, 3s. Potatoes, lucally-grown, £3 to £3 5s ; Circular Head, £3 ss. Onions, £lO. Butter, dairy-made, 7d to 8d; factorymade, 8d to 9d. Cheese, 3Jd to 4d. Bacon, 3d to 6d. Melboubnu, June 13. Wheat, firm, 2a 2d to 2s 3d. Flour, roller-made, £slss to £6 ss. Oats, Algerian, la 1 8d to Is 9d; feeding, Is lOd; Tartarian seed, 2s. Maize, 2s 3d. The Government have received a cable message Btating that the trade delegates who are travelling in the East have arrived at Hong Kong. They report that there is a good opening for flour there, as freights are reduced to 12s 6d per ton. Adelaide, June 13. Wheat, 2s 2d. Flour, £5 15s to £6. Bran, 7£d to8d; pollard, BJd. Hobabt, June 13. The Government propose to put a £500,000 loan on the market early next year. MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, June 12. Tenders for the West Australian 4 per cent, loan of £540,000 with a minimum of 102 were opened to-day. The total amount tendered was £1,330,000. Those at £lO3 3s 6d receive 40 per cent. The Victorian produce exhibits at the Cambridge Agricultural Show are generally speaking in good condition, but .some of the eggs when they arrived Were found to be bad. At the Antwerp wool sales competition is spirited, and prices are equal to thoße ruling at the February series. At a meeting of shareholders of the Peninsular and Oriental Company, Sir T. Sutherland said that the slackness in the Australian passenger trade had been severely felt, but that the receipts from freights exceeded the corresponding six months by £25,000. They felt justified in recommending a dividend, but it would be necessary to face an ugly loss upon the exchange during the remainder of the year. June 13. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,6*0,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,550,000 quarters. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 70,200,000 bushels A trial shipment of Indian butte realised 104 s. N ew Zealand Trust and Loan Company's 5 per cents, are at £25. The difficulty of finding cold storage accommodation in London increases, and the market is glutted with meat. June 14. The National Mortgage and Agency Co. of New Zealand declare an interim dividend of 2£ per cent.
