AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting was held last night. Present Messrs J. Ashwell (chairman), A. Russell, E. Carr, and A. Frew. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: From the Clerk to Geraldine Council, covering forms of abstract of receipts and expenditure of the board for year ending March 31st, 1894, to be filled in in duplicate in terms of sections 317 and 318 of the Counties Act.—Attended to. v From the Secretary Timaru Harbor Board, enclosing plan showing the position of shingle accumulation on the south side of the breakwater, as on the 15th May. From Mr George Washington, asking that work promised in Alexandra street in the matter of formation and metalling of a portion of road be attended to, as the road was in a bad state and the traffic daily increasing. From the Cbrk County Council, asking for a copy of rate roll.—Attended to and returned. From Mr E. Brown, asking that his name be removed from the roll in respect of section 173 and that of Mr H. M. Miles substituted. INTERVIEW. Mr C. McAuliffe waited upon the board in respect of the condition of a section occupied by him fronting on John Street, which is occasionally flooded by storm water. He suggested either that the water table in Park Road be lowered, or else that the footpath be raised. He also asked that the footpath be made up fronting a section lately acquired by him with a frontage on Maude Street. overseer's report. The overseer's report was read as follows : " I have the honor to report that since last meeting the cleaning of the creek has been completed. The portion for which the board is liable is 93£ chains both sides and 47 chains one side only. The contractor for ford and cutting in Hornbrook street has not commenced work, but promises to do so on Monday, weather permitting. Owing to the late heavy rain there was a considerable overflow of water from side channels, and I engaged one man to clean the most pressing places. Some shingle has also been carted 1o the approaches of the bridge in Maud Street. Some of the sheet piling at Ackroyd's bridge has rotted away, and requires repairs. A plank is also required in Maud-Street bridge, and several approaches to foot bridges, as well as certain places in Denmark and High streets, require a few loads of shingle. About 50 loads at present would be sufficient. "A. W. Gaze."
In connection with the overseer's report, it was resolved on the motion of Mr Russell—« That if the contractor for ford does not commence work on M on day, the work be given to the next tenderer." The overseer was authorised to procure 50 cubic yards shingle at per yard, contractor to spread the same as directed, and akp t(? get absolutely necessary repairs effected to Maude Street bridge, and at Ackroyd's bridge.—The overseer was requested to report on the formation of part of Hayhurst Street. The overseer was instructed to notify Mr Eli Prattley that unless h_e completes the clearing of the gorse on the east town belt, the work will be done at his expense.
Re Mr Washington's application, the overseer was requested to inform applicant that the wprk woujd be put in hand as soon as amount due from " thirds " is received. Re Mr McAuliffe's application, on the motion of Mr Brown, it was resolved that the overseer prepare specifications, and invite applications for the work by noxt meeting. EB KESEUVEH. In cases where the tenderers for new leases had not complied with conditions, it was resolved that fresh tenders be called by advertisement in Tue«day morning's paper. The oyorseer was also instructed to sue for all outstanding rents under the old leases without notice. ACCOUNTS, Accounts as follows were passed for payment .—General, £l4 38s ; domain account, £5 7s 2d. The meeting thou terminated.
