TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

"The meeting of the above, adjourned from '.Wednesday, was held last night. Present —Messrs Coira, Mason, Storey, and J. W. Miles. CHAIRMAN. Mr Mason moved that Mr P. Coira be elected chairman during the absence of Mr Blyth. Mr Storey moved that Mr G. Mason, as the oldest member of the board, be appointed chairman. Mr Coira seconded the proposition. Mr Mason thanked the mover, and said that he must decline. He preferred that the position be held by someone with more stake in the township. Members were unanimous in urging Mr Mason to reconsider his decision, which he eventually did, thanking them for the honour done him. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows : From Mr B. Darroch, applying to have his name removed from the roll in respect of sections in the main street, and that of Messrs Kirby & Anderson substituted. —Agreed to. From the Geraldiue County Council, enclosing account for £42 7s 6d the board's share of the local option poll and for the share of licensing committee's expenses, £6 10s 3d.—Passed. From the same covering abstracts of forms of receipts and expenditure of the board required under the Counties Act. From the Treasury Department, notify- ; ing payment of the sum of £lss in respect of fees, fines, and penalties recovered to March 31st, 1894. From the Colonial Secretary's Ofljce, stating that the Geraldjne County Acclimatisation Society had applied to have hares made game, with an open shooting season for four mouths, from April to July, and asking the board to give an indication of feeling in the matter before the application is agreed to.—Held over for enquiry. From the Public Trust Department, notifying transfer of property. From Mr J. W. of closets, etc. The brigade would require some pipes. He found that the office of the board was partly on the brigade's land. He asked instructions as to whether tenders should be called for shingle supply. As health officer, he reported upon a nuisance arising from drainage at the back of Temuka Hotel. The clerk waß requested to give notice to property owners relative to the cutting back of fences to proper lines, and also to cutaway obstructive branches. He was authorised to supply pipes required by the Fire Brigade. In respect of the drainage matter, the overseer was instructed to notify the licensee of the Temuka Hotel that the drain laid must only be used for clean water.

Mr Storey suggested that repairs be effected to the fence in front of the brigade premises, and also supported the formation of the footpath.—lt was agreed to let the matter stand over.

It was also agreed that the chairman, Mr Coira, and the overseer be left to deal with any alterations necessitated by improvements to be made by the brigade. The overseer was authorised to procure any small quantity of shingle required at once, frame an estimate of total amount required, and invite tenders for same by next board day. FIRE BRIGADE SECTION. From correspondence produced it appeared that nearly 20 years ago a site was granted to the Fire Brigade, and this site is identical with the piece . of land on. which the board's office is built. The clerk was instructed to look ap other records and ascertain if the grant was ever completed.

ACCOUNTS. A ccounts to the amount of £93 9s 4d were passed for payment. The board then rose.
