Timaru A. and P. Association. A special meeting of the committee of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday afternoon. Present—MeßsrsA. C. Pringle (president), Wyllie, Mackay, Smith, Moßeth, Hay, J. S. Rutherford, Davie, Elwbrthy, Guinness, Orbell, McLaren, Kelland, King, Murray, Clark, Austin, Stevenson, Parry, and Irving. Correspondence was read inviting the association to send delegates to a conference at Wellington, and giving a sketch of the Bcope of the proceedings. The object was to provide a common platform from which all agricultural and pastoral interests may be considered, and an organisation formed nomewhat resembling the National Agricultural Union of G-reat Britain. Messrs McLaren, Orbell, and Clark were proposed and appointed delegates to the conference, and each in returning thanks for the confidence shown in them, promised to do his best in the interests of the colony and of South Canterbury. A sum of £3 3s was passed towards the expenses of the Christchurch conference. Correspondence was read regarding the proposal to establish a "New Zealand Flock Book." A conference had already been held on this subject at Christchurch, at which a, draft of rules had been made,' and this draft now came up for discussion. After the reading of the rules, and explanations by Mr McLaren, who attended the'Christchurch conference, it was resolved on the motion of Mr McLaren, seconded by Mr Orbell, —" That in the event of the North Island Sheep Breeders' Association agreeing to accept and adopt the rules drafted by the proposed Flock Book Committee, this society is \of opinion that a general Council of Management for each island should be appointed ; the councillor the South Island to be elected by the • Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, and Invercargill A. and P, Associations, the Christchurch or Canterbury Society to elect three representatives, the other societies each two; members of the council to be elected for three years, And that it be a recommendation from this society that the editing of the flock book be placed under the control of the representatives of the Canterbury A. and P. Association." A quantity of correspondence was read relative to the association's tenancy of the show ground. The association hold it on six months' notice from Rhodes' Trustees, and as the latter have had an offer to take it for a definite number of years, they asked the association if they would submit a similar offer. It was understood that the trustees would make a substantial reduction in the rent (now £SO a year) if a lease was taken. The association has been trying to obtain the lease of the Maori reserve, but the chairman stated there now appeared very little chance. of their obtaining it. After considerable discussion Mr McLaren's motion, which had been variously amended, was passed "That the president, vicepresident, and Messrs King, Orbell, Hay, Rutherford, Mcßeth and Kelland, be appointed a committea to make the best arrangements possible to secure a lease for a term of years of the present show ground, and that the committee make an effort to secure a more suitable ground." ' A subcommittee was then set up, on the motion of Mr Hay, to revise the prize schedule. Mr McLaren moved —" That with a view to putting the association on a better financial footing, and getting the public to take greater interett in the society,' a sub-com-mittee be appointed to look into the affairs of the association, and make any recommendation to the next meeting of the committee that they may think desirable, and that no secretary be appointed until that report be received." Mr McLaren spoke to his motion, but as many members had to leave to catch their trains, the matter could not be properly discussed, and he withdrew it, and gave notice of it for next meeting.
