EARTHQUAKES IN GREECE.
Athens, April 29. As reports come in from the districts affected by the earthquake, its ravages are shown to be much more extensive than was supposed. Hundreds of thousands of people are rendered homeless, and the whole coast line from opposite Larissa to Thermopylae is laid desolate. The sea encroached upon the land, and elsewhere torrents of boiling water upheaved from fissures in the earth, and added to the horrors of the scene. April 30. The unfortunate inhabitants in the stricken districts are spending their nights in the open air praying for mercy. The shocks still continue. Extensive fissures have been riven in the ground, and the mountain gorges have been greatly affected, London, May 1. The Lord Mayor has started a fund for the relief of the sufferers byi the earthquakes in Greece.
