TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above board was held last evening. Present— Messrs Blyth (chairman), Coira, Miles, Mason, and Storey. COEEESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read— From the town clerk, Rangiora, with regard to lighting the town. The vapor lights were tried, but were found too expensive. The lights were satisfactory. From several ratepayers, asking the names of others to be placed on the rate roll instead of their own.—These matters were attended to. EAILWAY TEBRAOB., The chairman said Mr Coira and himself had a look at Railway Terrace, and came to the conclusion that it was better to raise the footpath. It was not an expensive work, and if not done it would result in water lying on the streets..-7-The work was already in and was approved by the board. RESEEVE. The chairman reported that Mr McCaskill was willing to cut the broom and fence the section behind the Volunteer Ha}l. The fire brigade wanted it to practice on, and other people were desirous of getting it.
Mr Storey did not like to be too hard O J * *ilr McCaskill, and he was paying » big rent, but they miißt do their best with the property of the hoard. If the fire brigade needed the ground the board should give it. He moved that the matter stand over till next meeting. The chairman said the former lessee, Mr Quinn, had an acre of land more than he ought, and the lease pusaed over to, Mr McCaskill, who took it in good faith, believing it was part of the land he had leased.
Mr Mason seconded Mr Storey's motion, and it was carried. overseer's report, The overseer reported that the principal work doye during the month \>as levelling th,e sides of the roads., and the soil tako.ii off was utilised, iu levelling footpath's. In Wilmhurst street some of this was required, and pipes wore put across it. The lire brigade asked for a part of the reserve at the back of the Volunteer Drill Shed for their practices. The chairman s;iid thjyt heavpposed tho ground would b.P giv'Qii to tho brigade. Tho woljs wanted cleaning,and they would have to p:iy the brigade for it at the rate of Is Od per hour per man. MSAYK 01'' AUHBNCIS. Tho clviiniiJin said ho desired to ask IV leave of absence, as it is possible b tf m; .j* uot be present next meeting, intended to go to tho Old CoP.i, tr y, and would not be back before next election. He would resign th.ey liked, but he did not think it was worth while, as the general election came on in September next. Mr C'oira moved—"lk-it leave of absence be granted to the chairman." MriJturey seconded the motion, and was very sorry thai Mr Blyth was leaving, althouhg ho felt glad to know that ho was iu a position to take a rest. Tho motion was carried.
The chairman thanked them, and hoped if they were together again they would work together as amicably as in the past. Mr Storey suggested that the chairman should take a letter from the Board, so that it might give him the entree to public bodies at Home. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £2l 18s 6d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
