GERALDINE TROTTING CLUB.
A meeting of persons interested in the formation of a Trotting Club at Geraldine was held at Hood’s Geraldine Hotel on Saturday evening last. There was a. good muster of interested persons present, and at the wish of the meeting Mr R. H. Pearpoiut took the chair. Mr Pearpoint said that all presant were no doubt aware of the purport of the meeting. The matter had been discussed in private, and steps had been taken to interview the Domain Board with the object of getting the use of the Domain in the event of a Trotting Club being formed as proposed. They were successful in this object, and, the matter had not yet come formerly before the board, all the members of it were quite agreeable to granting the request. In the event of the formation of a trotting club the Domain Board members had. also authorised their chairman to give the clerk instructions to insert the neces'sary advertisements legalising a charge for entrance to the Domain on May 24th; the day proposed for holding the club’s first meeting. The Board had to do tliis so that the required number of advertisemeuts could be published before May 24th. He (Mr Pearpoint) thought that the Queen’s Birthday being a holiday, was the most desirable day they could mention on which to hold their first meeting, and make it a success, f Several gentlemen, he mentioned, had visited the ground, and it was a matter of opinion whether they should run a track right round the Domain, or make only a half mile track. There was one serious objection to running the track right round the grounds, viz., that the leasee’s dividing fences would have to coma down, which would greatly inconvenience him, especially if, as the promoters wish, the track should be a permanent one for trotting horses to train on. But by making an application ta the Domain Board they thought thay could get a good half mile track without interfering with the leasees fences. This could be done by taking in a slice of the cricket oval, and erecting two double gates at the openings they might make in the fence, in this way they could have a track in full view or spectators in tha pravillion and on the oval. TUB CLUB. On the motion of Mr J. Farrell, seconded by Mr R. Hood, it was carried—- “ That a club be formed, to bo called the ‘ Geraldine Trotting Club.’ ” The entrance fee for membership was fixed at £1 Is per annum.
