CRICKET.

Great interest was taken in the final Cup match between Geraldine and Temuka, which was played at Temuka on Saturday afternoon, and there was a capital attendance of cricketers and visitors generally to witness what was generally expected to prove a very keen contest. Both clubs were unable to put forth their full strength. Timaru substituted Mcintosh for Postlethwaite, who was unfortunutely ill, and Fish, for Geraldine, was unable to arrive in time to bat. Considerable care had been taken in the preparation of the wicket, but the southern end proved rather bumpy. The game resulted in a win for Timaru, the Geraldine team fairly collapsing, with the exception of Moore, who played au excellent innings for 52. For Timaru six of the team got into double figures, Smith batting iu good style for 30. Hargreaves put a soft one into Moore's hands when he had made 18, and Rothwell, who was batting carefully, was neatly caught by Beckett off a "bumpy " ball. Perry played good cricket for his 13, and C. S. Fraser hit out freely for 14. Raymond waß unfortunately run out after receiving one ball. G. P. Wood put up 10 quickly. The fielding on both sides was fairly good, but hardly as good as has been seen. Wicksteed for Timaru and Beekett for Geraldine did capital work. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the Mioses Brown, who entertained all visitors most hospitably. The following are the scores : Geraldine. A. Beckett, b Macintosh. 0 W. K. Macdonald, run out ' 0 H. W.
