N.Z. RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
At the annual meeting of the association on Tuesday night, the following council were elected: —Wanganui, Captain Watt; Auckland, Lieutenant White; Christchurch, Captain Harman; Wellington, Lieutenant Kirk; Napier, Mr F. W. Williams; Wairarapa, Mr W.E.Bidwell; Marlborough, Lieutenant Salmon ; South Canterbury, Sergeant Coltman; Dunedin, Mr Proudfoot; Southland, Mr W. Smith; Oamaru, Mr Creagh; Nelson and West Coast, Lieutenant Stibbs. It was resolved that the site for the 1896 meeting be left to the annual meeting of 1895 to decide, and that the next meeting be held at Trentham, Wellington, in the second week in March. The following are the principal prizetakers in the Last Try Match, 500yds, 10 shots. Dods, Port Chalmers, £8 47 Greenshields, Auckland, £6 ... ... 46 Wilson, Woodville, £5 46 Dobbs, £4 46 Cox, Woodville, £4 45 Corporal Walker, of the Honorary Reserve Corps, Christchurch, was detected using English ammunition, and after consideration the council found the offence was not intentional, and fined him. £l, and to be disqualified until the amount is paid. The Volley Firing Match, open to 20 volunteers from each volunteer district, 600 yards, 7 volleys; prizes given by the Defence Minister. Canterbury, £2O, 386 ; Auckland, £lO, 383 ; Wanganui, £5, 344 ; Napier, £5, 354; Taranaki, £5, 344 ; Otago, 327. Champion Match, open to the 50 highest aggregates in previous Belt matches; 700 yards; 10 shots; the score in this match to ba addad to previous aggregate, and the highest grand aggregate scorer to be the champion rifle shot of New Zealand. The proceedings terminated on Thursday afternoon with the presentation of prizes.
