AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present— Messrs J. Ash well, A. Frew, E. Brown, A. Russell, and E. Carr. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows : From the Crown Lands Commissioner, with reference to the expenditure of thirds. The Commissioner regretted having to trouble the clerk again, but as the law required specific proposals beneficial to the lots which furnish the thirds, he requested that the works to be done be plainly indicated. He intimated that the Crown Lands Ranger would call and advised the overseer as to what was required.—Clerk to see Crown Lands Ranger at first opportunity. From the Secretary Timaru Harbour Board, asking for information as to amount of rate collected for 1890, the amount actually collected, and amount outstanding. From the same, stating, unofficially,that Ihe rate to be struck for the current year would be the same as previously. From Mr E. Pilbrow, applying to have the name of Mr J. H. Mason removed from the roll, and that of Mr Joseph Simpson substituted in respect of section 102.
Prom Mr Arthur Colville, requesting that the name of Mr A. Clinch be substituted for his upon the respect of section 87, Wilkin Street. —Mr Clinch signified his consent, and the exchange was ordered to be made. INTERVIEW. Mr J. Douglas waited upon the board in reference to the reserves at present let. As an occupier he was anxious to ascertain if present holders would have a preference. He had been at considerable expense in fencing, and felt that the rent paid was already a fair one.—The board could not at present make any promise in reference to a renewal. CLERK AND OVERSEER. The chairman stated that at a special meetiug of the board the applications for the post of clerk and overseer had been considered, and that of Mr E. Pilbrow favorably considered. His appoiutment to take effect at the end of the financial period unless otherwise arranged. overseer's report. The everseer reported that the culvert at the junction of John and High street had been enlarged, as authorised, and that other repairs had been executed. He was authorised to have some slight shingling repei a executed at the work. The olerk waß instructed to issue summonses iu respect of oertain unpaid rates. GARDEN RESERVES. The leases of garden reserves were submitted, and the seal of the beard ordered to be affixed thereto. ACCOUNTS. Accounts for wayment were held over until next meeting, and the board adjourned.
