TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of the above board was held last evening. Present—Messrs Blyth (chairman), Coira, Miles, Mason, and Storey. Messrs Salraond, Ferguson, and Strong, as deputation from the Temuka Mechanics' Institute, waited on the board in reference to obtaining a donation from the board towards the funds of the institute. Mr Salaiond explained the object of the deputation. He said the institute was very much iu want of new books; in fact they, could not get members to join because they had not a good supply of books. Ho asked for a donation of £lO, and quoted authorities to show that the board had power to grant the money. He also read a letter from the secretary of the Waimate institute, to show that the Waimate Borough Council gave annually a donation of £3O to the institute in that town. He also read a letter from Ashburton, showing that the library there was entirely managed by the Borough Council.
Mr Ferguson urged that the money could not be put to better use than by giving a donation to the library. After some further discussion, it was moved and seconded, and carried unanimously— " That a sum of £lO be granted to the Temuka Mecbauics' Institute." Some further conversation took place, after which Mr Salmond, on behalf of the committee, thanked the board for their Jiberality, and the proceedings came to a close.
