SHOOTING.
Oh Thursday afternoon the Temuka Rifles fired a match for Major Moore's challenge shield. This trophy ia open for competition to all South Canterbury corps, ten men each company, seven Bhots at 400, 500, and 600 yards, Government targets and scoring. The Temuka men averaged 39.1 points. The day was dull, with a tricky head wind, otherwise it was a good day for Bhooting. Color-Sergt. McDonald and Corpi. Baker of the Ashburton Rifles were the scrutinaers on behalf of the other competing teams. The individual- scores were as follows : 400 500 600 yds. yds.' yds. Total. Sergt. Hobbs ... 10 18 20 48 Private Sheen ... 20 9 19 48 Private Phillips 18 14 11 43 Private Sim ... 18 18 6 42 Private Storey... 19 12 9 40 Sergt. Levens ... 19 12 9 40 Private Scott ... 20 13 6 39 Private Nicholas 21 7 5 33 Corpl. Watt ... 16 9 8 32 . Private Collins... 8 7 11 26 Grand Total... 391 Bange prizes were given by the Shooting Committee, and were won by Private Nicholas with 21 points at 400 yards, and by Sergt. Hobbs with 18 and 20 points at £OO and 600 yards.
