Lond 3^0v29, Replying to a question in the of Commons, Mr Gladstone said that ho considered it unnecessary to appoint a committee to enquire into and report upon the adoption of the “ betterment system.” Replying to Mr Keir Hafdie, Mr Gladstone said that the 'Government did not see their way at present to appoint a committee to consider the unemployed question. Replying to a question, Mr Gladstone said he did not believe that Russia was acquiring a naval station in the Mediterranean. Labour members in the House of Commons have submitted a Bill for the nationalisation of mines and minerals in Great Britain, on payment to the owners of their present value. The Government intend shortly to introduce an Evicted Tenants Bill which will be framed ou the lines suggested in the report of Mr Justice Matthews’ commission. Lord Salisbury has addressed his first meeting at Cardiff. He insisted on the necessity that existed for strengthening the Navy,, and, referring to the policy of the Government, said that he was dismayed to find that they were wasting their force on the Parish Councils Bill, which nobody demanded. Alluding to Irish affairs, he said that it was a cruel wrong to Ireland to keep the Horae Rule question hung up, merely in the hope of confusing the issues when the Government appealed to the country. The Home Secretary has refused permission to Anarchists to hold a meeting in Trafalgar Square on Sunday. Nov. 30. In the House of Commons, the Home Secretary, in replying to a question, said that he was considering the propriety of prosecuting Samuels, the editor of a paper called Commonwealth, upon a charge of inciting the Anarchists to commit murder.
The House of Lords have passed the second reading of the Employers’ Liability Bill.
