TEMUKA Ist v. ASHBURTON Ist.
The Temuka Ist eleven journeyed to Ashburton on Saturday last to play a cup; match with the Ist eleven of that place.; Ashburton were the first to bat and the! wickets fell rapidly, when, at the score t_ wickets for 57, a decided stand was made 1 by Denshire and Todd, who carried the! score to 141. Then the home team declared! the innings closed. This left Temuka about; an hour to knock up the rt quired number of runs or make a draw of it. They succeeded in playing out time with 9 wickets down for 44 runs. The first men came and went in rapid succession and a collapse seemed evident as 6 wickets were down for 18 runs. Ferguson 12, was the only one who made a stand against the bowling of Todd and Bussell. The last men in, Dann and Brown, pluckily played out time, and saved Temuka from a very bad defeat.
