NOT SATISFIED.
(By our Spring Poet.)
“ A meeting of women electors who are not satisfied with any of the candidates for Christchurch will be convened &c., &c.— Press, November 6th: — Candidates (Icq.) — Not satisfied ? Great Ctesar’s ghost! What more can be desired ? Why nearly twenty nice young men, by one pure motive fired— Some score of blushing patriots your favor seek to woo, And coyly come at duty’s call, to try to pouch the screw. “ Uncertain, coy, and hard to please. ’ ’Twas thus Sir Walter sung ; Oh, tell us what it is you want —Perhaps it is more tongue 1 Perhaps ’tis manly grace of form 1 Lineage of high degree 1 And yet you are not satisfied (ye gods) with Elen G. 1 1 1 Or him who (in his burning zeal to the poor man’s ills, And try to catch the Unions’ vote by countless “ labah ” bills), Has left his lofty rank and wealth (only, of course, pro tern .), And “ grovels on his tummy ” (see speech of Scobie M.) Allow us, too, to recommend each learned legal pate Who’ll drive thro’ Acts they help to make a coach of six (and eight); Or Funston, whose bell-topper alone is worth a trial; Or to draw your kind attention to Mort Davie’s gentle smile. Would you secure much “ heloquence ” and “ heducation ” " ’igh ” 1 Then send our Taylor to the “ ’ouse ” to make the aitches fly. Or do you want a pilot (political) of souls 1 ’Twixt Hoare and Collins you’ve a choice, divergent as the poles. And if to grasp the helm of State These are not men enough, Then give the wheel to Evison, And bid him “ mind his luff.” He’ll “ jam her up to windward,” And from past experience too. While not neglecting -t canvass,” He won’t refuse a screw. There’s Powell, who when men of me ans are taxed until mere damp ghosts, Will divide the spoil ’mongst sons of toil who loaf around the lamp posts. You can have “ imported Gladstones,” each facile pr Incops, Or encourage local industry, and vote for home made '‘reps.” We’ll promise any mortal thing (see our reported speeches). Mankind shall be disfranchised, and women wear the b s. You’ve only got to mention it, and in the model hub. Sir Robert shall teach Sunday schools, and Isitt keep a pub. Though we all are heaven-born statesmen, sent to save our laud from wreck, Only three, alas ! are in it—only three can nail that cheque. Just before the battle mothers, just before the coming fray, Morituritesalutant, likewise, Ta-ra-ra-b om de-ay. The Bandersnatch. Truth.
