TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the above waa held on Tuesday. Present— Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), P. Coica, F. Parke, W. Snell, and J. Fraser. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows : From Mr 0. Haar, requesting that the road between section 25311 and old railway reserve be opened, and also that the gorse be grubbed.—The overseer to give notice to have the obstruction removed and gorse grubbed. From Mr W. Hawke, asking the board to have the drain cleaned on the Swamp road, next to his paddock, and offering to contribute towards the cost.— Mr Hawke to be informed that as the drain is on the lower side of the road the board cannot assist. From Mr 0. Griffiths, Orari, applying to have his name removed from the roll in respect of section in Orari township, and that of Mr H. H. Heatloy substituted. —Agreed to. From Mr Douglas Dobson, C.E., drawing attention to improved machinery for earth shifting. From Mr D. L. Inwood, asking permission to lay a pipe across the road opposite his house, for the purpose of water supply, electric light, etc.-Agreed to. From Mr H. Nichols, Arundel, applying to have his name removed from roll in respect of section forfeited at Orari. —Enquiry to be made. From the Audit Department, stating that in future certain charges would be permitted, provided the actual expenditure does not exceed one per cent, of the income of the board, nor more than fifty pounds a year. INTERVI sw. Mr P. Wareing interviewed the board iu reference to a letter received, relative i,o the purchase of land at Milford for a road. Mr Wareing offered to let the board a right-of-way for a small annual sum in preference to selling. Contract No. ,67, is completed and passed for payment, and fair progress is being made with the other works’ except contract No. 64, forming part of Main South road. Fresh tenders were called for this work, and it was relet to Mr Sugrue, one week after last meeting, but he has not yet started it. The bridge over the Kangitira Creek on the Kakahu road has been stripped, and the sills, girders, and decking renewed. A small timber bridge on Stewart’s road has been re-built. P v e Footbridge near Manse; This bridge requires to be lengthened about 70 feet to connect it with the bank.
