Negotiations connected with the wool dispute have ceased, and consequently business is at a standstill. One large steamer has been compelled to go to Melbourne to seek cargo. Wool valued at £2,200,000 is already stored in the warehouses and additional consignments are flowing in. The wool warehouses are overflowing and stores of all descriptions are being brought into requisition to cope with the demand for space. Nov. 2. The committee of the Chamber of Commerce offered to mediate in the wool difficulty, but the buyers declined to accept the offer. The non- associated brokers are conducting sales at which competition is brisk and prices well maintained.

MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL.

London, October 31. The Ruahine’s New Zealand butter is selling at the stores at 80s to 94s ; winter, 100 s to 114 s. Nov.l. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,792,000 quarters, and for the Continent 884,000 quarters. Australian wheat, new crop, is selling at 30s.
