RIFLE SHOOTING.
Sydney, Oct. 18. In the Nursery Match, Brown, of Auckland, and Wilkie, of Uppor Hutt (Wellington), take prizes. In consequence of the gale the weather was most unfavourable for shooting today. The Queen's pri&a was won by Seaman Nelson, of New South Wales, with a score of 171. Brown of Auckland, 50, and Wilkie, of Upper Hutt, 43, secured prizes in the third stage. Oct. 19. The following are prize takers in the aggregates for the Queen's prize:—Brown, A Battery, Auckland, who took 4th prizo with a score of 163; Captain W. H. Ballinger, Petone Rifle Club, 161 ; Private Leigh, Victoria Rifles, Auckland, 149; Seaman Rabe, Wellington Navals, and Gunner Webster A Battery, 146. In the first series of the Daugar Match, Ballinger 44, and Brown 43, are among the prize takers. ;Macfarlane took second prize in the Members' Match to-day, with a pc re of 61. Kirk, of Petone, 61, and Webster, of Auckland, 59, ahju secured prizes. Sydney, Oct. 20. At the New South Wales Rifle Association meeting, Webster, of Auckland, with a score of 32, secured a prize. In the same match Wilkie, of the Upper Hutt, Wellington, with a score of 68, and Tobin, of Auoklaud, with 68 each, take prizes. In the aggregate of the Continuous Match, Howe, of the D Battery, Wellington, is the first with 64, and Captain Ballinger, of the Petone Rifle Club, is a prize-taker with 63. Ooi 21. A treacherous win,d. xsm blowing to-day and interfered somewhat with the shooting, The championship with £SO and gold medal was won by Lient. Hone, of Kiama, with a tjcore of 330. Howe, Wellington, 46, Humphries and Harris, 42, were among the prizetakers. In this match, the trophy presented by the proprietors of the Colonial Military Gazette for the highest score at 600 yards was won by Howe with 29. The following are the New Zealand prize-takes in the Champion aggregates : —W. Ballinger 309, McFarlane 307, Webster 301, Brown 299, Wilkie 297, Howe 296, Kirk 291, Tobin 290. The Champion Teams Match was won by the Petone Rifle ,Club, Wellington, with a score of 1459; St. Leonard's team second, with 1442 ; Ballarat third, with 1428. A protest was lodged against the Petone team, chiefly on the ground that while it embraced members the force it purported to be a private club. The Petone Club won this match last year, and no obj ctlon was then made to the status of the club. The Auckland Club was thirteenth with 1366. Oct. 22. The council of the New South Wales Rifle Association upheld the protest against the Petone Rifle Club, winners of the Champion Teams Match, and disqualified them, and pursued a similar course against them and the Aucklaud Rifle Club in the Rifle Club's Match. The meeting has now concluded.
