RIFLE SHOOTING.

The Rifle Association meeting began yesterday. The weather was fine though hot; In the Merchants’ Continuous Match Doughty scored 33 out af a possible 35.
In the first stage of the Queen’s Match (300yds and 400yds), Tobin, of Auckland, who was top scorer, made five successive bulls’-eyes at 500yds. Captain W. Ballinger of the Petone Rifle Club, Sergeant Doughty, of the A Battery, Auckland, andi Gunner Howe of the D Battery, Wellington, each take prizes in the match. Last year Private Kruse, of the Wanganui Rifles, won this match with a score of 64 points. A strong easterly wind interfered with the shooting to-day. The following New Zealand representatives take prizes in the second stage for the Queen’s Prize: — Ballinger (Wellington), 60 ; Kirk (Petone), 59 ; Kuchen (Wellington!, 58; Webster (Auckland), 56. Private Brooks (New South Wales) was top scorer with 63.
