The English wheat market has a weak tone, the Continental is declining, and the American depressed. Western Australia will issue a £500,000 loan within the week.
The Times reports large sales of Italian rentes, the proceeds of which are being invested in colonial bonds.
Wool shippers report that owing to fixed charters it is difficult to obtain vessels which can arrive in time for the series of sales in January. It is expected that a final decision will bo arrived at on Monday. Oct. 9. The Times considers that the success of the New South Wales loan is largely due to the confidence in the Sinking Fund Bill, and hopes that Victoria aud other colonies will enact similar legislation. During September the imports decreased in value by £107,000, and the exports by £671,000. a syndicate, which includes Colonel North and Baron De Worms, has purchased the Lower California Peninsula for £9,000,000. The country will be annexed to the United States.
The committee who have the arrangement of the wool auctions entrusted to them, are equally divided as to the policy of fixing the next series for January, and have adjourned till Wednesday. Wheat is 6d per quarter lower.
