TEMUKA TOWN BOARD
The monthly meeting of the above board was held last evening. Present —Messrs Blyth (chairman), Coira, Storey, Mason, and Miles. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read— From Mr J. Beri, stating he was only a weekly tenant of thd place where the drain was required on the property he occupied.—lt was decided to refer the matter to Messrs Perry and Perry, as agents for the property. From Mr D. Taylor, asking permission to erect a verandah in front of his shop. —Granted. From Geraldine'County Council;'asking for payment of second moiety of the harbour rates (£2O 2s lid).—Passed for payment. From Mr Badger, apologising for language he had used in demanding payment of his account; FIRE BRIGADE. The chairman explained that, with Messrs Coira and Mason, he mot the Fire Brigade to inspect the wells, and came to the conclusion that it was advisable to have a pipe driven in the well in WiJhelmhurst street, It was accordingly agreed to carry out the proposal. OVERSEER’S REPORT.
The overseer, iu his report, recommended that the main drain from Vine street and Mr Story’s stable be flushed and cleaded and repaired ; also to form foothpath on the east side of Thomas street, and 1 y pipes across the 'same street at its junction with Ewen road. Be also gave estimates for asphalting footpaths from Messrs Ayson & Watt’s corner to the railway, and also from Mr Biggins’ corner to the corner beyond Sir William Blunden’s house and from Mr Lyon’s corner to the North town belt.—lt was resolved to clean the sumps and flush the main drains ; that specifi--catiousfor work required in Thomas and Davis streets be prepared and tenders called for the same ; that the asphalting as recommended in the overseer’s report bo carried out, and tenders called for the same, 4 inusAso*!,
Mr Mason brought under the notice of the board the dilapidated state of the brick building near Mr Dann’s house. It was in a disgraceful state. The chairman said if they had, {'ey power to pull the house down it ought to be pulled down* Mr Mason said tfet when a certain man bought tilt* pV'P.psrty he was ordered to pull ff down, but now as it waa in » “big bugV ? hands the hoard accused of being WU'tM o>* V» .. ’ and i f they had the power ** j would have it done.
Mr Pilbrow, as agent for the property, said those who had bought it paid £2O, which they had forfeited. The whole of the property was offered for £7O.
Mr Mason : It is not worth £SO?
Mr Pilbrow said that was the value put on it. The premises were now let for the coming year.
Mr Bly th : Are they going to repair the house ?
Mr Pilbrow: Oh .no; only a weekly tenant.
Mr Mapon moved —“ That the clerk be instructed to write to’ Mr Pitman asking to pull down the house or make it secure.” Mr Storey seconded the motion, and it was canied unanimously.
ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £4l 10s 9d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
